Development of a Chewing Robot With Built-in Humanoid Jaws to Simulate Mastication to Quantify Robotic Agents Release From Chewing Gums Compared to Human Participants

Medicated chewing gum has been recognised as a new advanced drug delivery method, with promising future. Its potential not yet fully exploited because currently there is no gold standard for testing the release of agents from in vitro. This study presents novel humanoid robot capable closely replicating human motion closed environment, incorporating artificial saliva and allowing measurement xylitol gum. The commercially available was quantified following both vitro vivo mastication. demonstrated similar rate participants. greatest occurred during first 5 minutes after 20 only low amount remained bolus, irrespective method used.
